Good Evening from Nairobi.
We are experiencing rains in Nairobi btw and we give thanks!
On my previous post, I covered Freddie Mcgregor landing in Nairobi and promised to share some images from his live performance in Kenya. Finally here we go. The concert happened yesterday in a rainy fashion and style. At first I thought Nairobians will not show up in numbers to enjoy their love for Reggae music. I was wrong, indeed very wrong. They came in numbers and they continued coming until the last act who was Freddie Mcgregor.
I asked Freddie’s team why they didn’t come with the Bigship co drivers; Stephen Di Genius and Chino. Was told they were in New York doing great things. Chino just won a Grammy!
I had never imagined shooting with the challenge of continuous rain. At some point I would pray it goes for a few minutes so I could get images but nothing. It kept raining. My camera had to wear a hoodie man!…there’s no choice. There’s always the risk of the zoom lenses getting moisture but you know this is what we have to do to get our job done.
Performances began at 9.00pm and I got home at 7.00am. Whatever happened in between those hours was pure Reggea jamming, photography and off course being rained on.
Saw a lot of my friends too, hopefully they will find some of their images here.
I give thanks to the Promoter and the event manager Headcornerstone Entertainment. Headcornerstone are not gonna stop soon, they brought in Capleton and Queen Ifrica in 2016, Damian in 2017 and now Freddie Mcgregor and The Mighty Culture. I cannot even stay calm waiting for the next concert by them.
I also cannot forget my sister Evarita Kamau of Authentic xperiences for making this happen. Our MC’s Phillipo and Tallia, deejays Teargas, Agugu, Mohspice thank you.
